Frances Corner, Warden

Warden, Professor Frances Corner OBE is the academic and administrative leader of Goldsmiths.

Previously Head of the London College of Fashion and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Arts London, Professor Corner brings more than 20 years’ experience in higher education leadership to Goldsmiths.

Jilly Court, Chief Operating Officer

Jilly Court is our Chief Operating Officer, which incorporates the role of Registrar. Jilly joined Goldsmiths on an interim basis in February 2022, having previously worked at Brunel University London, University of Exeter, University of the Arts London, University of East Anglia and the University of Nottingham.

Jilly took on the role of COO in January 2023 and is responsible for all Professional Services and administration which includes Student and Academic Services, People and Organisational Development, IT and Digital Services, Estates and Facilities, Strategic Planning, Communications, Marketing and Recruitment and Development and Alumni.

Ernest Caldwell, Pro-Warden Education and Student Experience

Professor Ernest Caldwell joined Goldsmiths in October 2023 as Pro-Warden Education and Student Experience. Ernest is responsible for strategic oversight of the College’s academic portfolio, education and the student experience, international partnerships and academic staff progression and development.

Ernest is a specialist in Chinese law and legal history. He has published extensively on early Chinese legal manuscripts as well as the modern constitutional histories of China. Ernest is currently co-investigator on a four-year AHRC funded grant project titled “Han Dynasty Phonology: When Chinese Became Chinese”. Prior to joining Goldsmiths, Ernest spent 11 years at SOAS where he taught in the law and East Asia departments and served in various senior leadership roles.

David Oswell, Pro-Warden for Research, Enterprise and Knowledge Exchange

Professor David Oswell is responsible for leading the development and overseeing the implementation of Goldsmiths’ Research and Enterprise Strategy.

David joined Goldsmiths in 2001 and from 2013 to 2016 was Head of Department for Sociology. His current research interests concern the social life and history of children, childhood and children’s rights.

Professor Adam Dinham profile picture

Adam Dinham, Head of the School of Culture and Society

Adam Dinham is Professor of Faith and Public Policy and Director of the Faiths and Civil Society Unit at Goldsmiths. He previously served as Co-Head of the Department of Social, Therapeutic and Community Studies from April 2020 until July 2022, and was Director of Research in the Department in the lead up to REF 2021.

Adam’s research interests focus on a social justice framing of religion and belief as a protected characteristic in equality policy and practice, particularly across health and social care and schools. He is professionally qualified in Social Work and psychotherapy.

Stephen Graham, Head of the School of Arts and Humanities

Dr Stephen Graham is Senior Lecturer in Music and was Co-Head of the Department from 2018 - 2021. Stephen is an active member of the College’s governance structures and committees, including as Chair of the Regulations Working Group.

Stephen's book, 'Sounds of the Underground', was published by University of Michigan Press in May 2016. He has a jointly authored textbook on twentieth-century music coming out on CUP in 2021, and is writing a book on noise music for Bloomsbury.

Matthew Cragoe profile picture

Matthew Cragoe, Acting Head of the School of Professional Studies, Science and Technology

Matthew Cragoe joined Goldsmiths in Spring 2021, having been Pro Vice-Chancellor (Arts) at the University of Lincoln. With a strong interest in conservation and sustainable development, Matthew is Vice-Chair of the UNESCO Man and Biosphere Committee in the UK.

His research embraces a variety of themes in Modern British History including rural history (particularly parliamentary enclosure); Victorian Politics (especially Sir Robert Peel's Conservative Party); Devolution in Wales and Scotland since 1945; the history of Religion; and the History of Universities in 20th century Britain.

Susan Edwards, Director of People and Organisational Development

Susan Edwards joined Goldsmiths as Interim Director of HR in October 2021, bringing a range of experience from different sectors including Education and Tech.

Imran Chughtai, Chief Financial Officer

Imran joined Goldsmiths in September 2021, having previously worked for Aamal Company Q.P.S.C, a publicly listed company operating within Industrials, Life Sciences and Real Estate sectors where I was Group CFO.

Prior to Aamal, Imran was Group CFO at Zuellig Pharma, Asia's largest Pharma distributor, having also worked at Huawei Technologies and Whirlpool Corporation.
