How to get your alumni email account

When your course end date is after 1 September 2021

Your @gold.ac.uk account will be automatically converted to an alumni email account 150 days after your course end date.

Please note

  • You will still need to sign up to the alumni mailing list to receive the full range of alumni benefits
  • You will be able to use your alumni account for up to 36 months after your course completion date
  • We can no longer offer access to an alumni email after 36 months
  • Your alumni email will automatically deactivate at 36 months from your course end date. Your email history and contacts will be deleted at this point – we encourage you to save important emails, documents and contacts as these cannot be retrieved after deactivation
  • For problems accessing your Goldsmiths email, please contact the IT Service Desk

When your course end date is before 31 August 2021

The deadline to apply to keep your Goldsmiths email account has passed.

If you applied:

  • You would have received an email confirmation and your account will convert 120 days from your course end date
  • You can login to Outlook  using the login format username@campus.goldsmiths.ac.uk (abcde001@campus.goldsmiths.ac.uk)
Please note that your Goldsmiths IT username format is abcde001
  • For problems accessing your Goldsmiths email, please contact the IT Service Desk

If you missed the deadline to apply or did not apply:

  • Goldsmiths email addresses are automatically deactivated 120 days from your course end date.
  • At that point, the account’s email history and contacts are deleted and cannot be retrieved after deactivation.
  • For queries relatating Goldsmiths email, please contact the IT Service Desk

For other circumstances, depending on your degree and situation, the below applies.

How alumni email works

If you applied, you can login to Outlook using the login format username@campus.goldsmiths.ac.uk (abcde001@campus.goldsmiths.ac.uk). Please note that your Goldsmiths IT username format is abcde001.

Please note: In line with Goldsmiths’ information security and account retention policies, inactive accounts will be reviewed and deleted. An account is considered inactive if it has not been accessed in 18 months.

Depending on your degree and situation, the below applies:

Your @gold.ac.uk email will change to @alumni.gold.ac.uk.

You will still receive emails sent to your @gold.ac.uk address but any replies will come from @alumni.gold.ac.uk.

Your email will change from the current format (a.surname@gold.ac.uk) to username@alumni.gold.ac.uk (abcde001@alumni.gold.ac.uk).

You will still receive emails sent to your @gold.ac.uk address but any replies will come from @alumni.gold.ac.uk.

Your @gold.ac.uk email will automatically be deleted, including email history and contacts. We are unable to reactivate your account.

If you become employed by Goldsmiths, you will be given a separate staff account.

Due to data protection, you are not able to keep your staff account once your contract ends. Please ensure that you are using your staff account for work-related matters and that you apply to convert your @gold.ac.uk student email to an alumni email.

If you return to study at Goldsmiths, you will either:

  • be given a new student email account if your previous student @gold.ac.uk email was deleted, or
  • continue to use the same student @gold.ac.uk email if you applied to convert it to an alumni email – once you enrol, your alumni email will change back to a student email

Prior to 2013, there was no Alumni Email Service. Your @gold.ac.uk email would have been automatically deleted, including email history and contacts and we are unable to reactivate your account.

Problems accessing email and password reset

You can reset your password and unlock your account using One Identity Password Manager if you have previously set up your security questions and have an active alumni email. Go to the IT webpage and follow the instructions.

We recommend trying One Identity Password Manager in the first instance. If you are still unable to reset your password, contact the IT Service Desk with your full name, Student ID and email we have on file for you.

Email the IT Service Desk and include your full name, programme, year you left and email we have on file for you.

Restoring deactivated accounts

Once an email account is deactivated, all emails and contacts are deleted and cannot be restored.
